In the 'Esqueleto' the author legitimizes the literary function with the press and the serial novel (Aluísio Azevedo was intensely collaborative publishing novels, to the taste of the general public), especially valuing the material issue of naturalistic novel, striking influence of Émile Zola and Eca de Queiros. Bakhtin draws our attention to the problem of the material: in the resolution of the problem of the meaning of the material to the aesthetic object, one should consider this material in its scientific definition and rigorously accurate, without enriching it with no foreign element to this definition. That is, it assumes that the culture is part of the tongue and as such is related to the word which in turn bind cognitive, ethical and aesthetic of the subject underlying this meaning.
