Energy exporters and climate change

"Policies to tackle climate change agreed at Kyoto and beyond will influence global energy choices, away from carbon-rich fossil fuels, and eventually towards renewable energy sources. This book suggests that the change process will take many years, and that it can be managed in other ways. In the short term, climate policies favour fuel shifts along a chain from coal to oil to natural gas. In the longer term they should encourage investment in low-emission industries, including in energy-exporting countries. The study proposes some new patterns of international cooperation, including emissions trading and the transfer of 'green' technologies."
