Friar Diego de Ocaña (Ocaña, Spain 1565 - México, 1608) was a Jeronymite monk, painter, evangelist and explorer who traveled through South America before settling in Mexico in 1605. Among his most famous paintings is the 'Virgin of Guadalupe', of which he made several copies: one for Potosi (1600), another for Chuquisaca (1601), and a third for the Cathedral of Lima, Peru. The book studies the life and work of the monk and the process of restoration and conservation of the painting in the Cathedral of Lima.
