1759년(영조 35)부터 1879년(고종 16)까지 간행된 광주읍지光州邑誌를 참조하여 경술국치 이후 달라진 행정체제에 따라 편찬된 것이다. 건치연혁ㆍ군명ㆍ관원 등 전통적인 읍지 형식을 따르고 있다. 기동설奇東卨ㆍ박봉주朴鳳柱의 서문과 강세영姜世永ㆍ김희수金喜洙의 발문이 있다.
