About
This study looks at Dante's Divina commedia principally from a theological perspective, rather than a philological one. The Divina commedia is a poetic depiction of the path to God. For Dante, Beatrice becomes a theological guide on his path to purification and to God. Thus Dante's experience of human love becomes the starting point and the ultimate goal for his path to God. Beatrice stands, according to this interpretation, for theology, which has its point of origin in interpersonal encounters, but which sets God alone as the goal for all love and understanding.
