Les répercussions de l'effondrement de l'Union soviétique en 1991 sur les économies des républiques d'Asie centrale (Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Ouzbékistan, Tadjikistan, Turkménistan) ont été jusqu'à présent peu étudiées. Ces nouveaux Etats se trouvent cependant dans des situations problématiques: ils ont considérablement souffert de la disparition des liens entre les entités soviétiques et doivent aujourd'hui réajuster d'anciennes économies interdépendantes à leurs nouvelles frontières internationales. L'Asie centrale, longtemps définie par sa centralité, ne serait-elle donc pas plutôt enclavée ?
