About
"The collection and transcription of this anthology of Kanuri stories was carried out in 1975 by researchers at the Borno State Branch of Bayero University College's Centre for the Study of Nigerian Languages. The stories were first produced in a duplicated version bearing the same title which appeared in early 1976. The first twelve stories in this book are quite old and very well known in Kanuri oral tradition. The particular versions of them which occur in 'Hawarwa Kanuribe' were originally collected by Sigismund Wilhelm Koelle and appeared in his book 'African Native Literature' which was first published in 1854. The Kanuri story-teller from whom he obtained them was Ali Aissami....The last seven stories were collected in the Maiduguri area by the story-tellers who are indicated with each story."--p. v.
