The book examines the concept of cinematheque since the first collections of films to present days, with a particular emphasis in the decade of the 1950's and the early 1960's when the model of cinematheque developed by Henri Langlois was applied to the collection of the Federaçao Internacional de Arquivos de Filmes (FIAF). The text tries to explain the Brazilian experience in a political and cultural context, analyzing particularly the politic / pedagogic project of the FIAF in the educational and cultural circles of Brazil between 1952 to 1973.
