About
Joseph Vessot est né en France à SaintAlbain le 31 janvier 1810. Il fit six années de service militaire sous Louis-Philippe. Étant illettré, il eut l'occasion à l'armée d'apprendre à lire et écrire. À son retour à la vie civile, il s'est converti au protestantisme à Mâcon à l'âge de 26 ans. Il suivit une formation de colporteurs-missionnaires. Engagé par la Société évangélique de Genève, il fut colporteur biblique à Clermont-Ferrand et à Bourg-en-Bresse en France. Étant volontaire, la Société évangélique de Genève l'envoya en 1840 au Canada. Ce journal, écrit de sa main, avec une orthographe très approximative, rend compte de son activité à la Société qui l'engage.
