About
Travel back to the 19th century and learn Hunsrück German (Hunsrickisch) as if you were amongst German immigrants here in Brazil! PLEASE NOTE! In this book, the language is illustrated through the language itself. Treat it like a game, in which the language is not taught through translations, but through context, images and the reader’s own understanding. Read and listen to the same chapter several times, so you can start forming sentences with what you’ve learnt! This material follows the ‘natural method’, used by authors such as Worman and Ørberg. This work is an invitation to the descendants of immigrants who, unfortunately, did not learn their language for whatever reason. It is time to learn it in a simple and natural way. Also invited are all those who, for whatever reason, wish to learn Hunsrückisch, one of Brazil’s languages, such as Guarani, Caingangue, Libras, Nheengatu, Pomeranian, Portuguese, Venetian, etc. From Middle High German (Middle Ages), different varieties emerged, such as: Standard German (central-eastern Germany); Bavarian German (southern Germany); Hunsrück German (central-western Germany); and others. Many speakers of Hunsrück German came to Brazil as immigrants and brought their language with them, which was also influenced by immigrants from other German regions. Note: This version of the book adopts the spelling system of Prof. Piter Boll, which is similar to that of Dr Altenhofen (UFRGS & University of Mainz), but introduces new elements to increase consistency.
