About
First edition of this polyglot which builds on the grand Renaissance tradition of philology. Nicolai, an adjunct professor at Jena, praises his illustrious forebearers, many of whom were his colleagues, to whose work this polyglot is indebted: Joh. Gerhardus, Buxtorf, Frischmuth, Zechendorf, Chr. Daumius, Jacob Golius, et al. He is very critical of Walton's English polyglot Bible (1657) for its many (typographical) errors but does praise Castell's very recent Heptaglot Lexicon (1669).
