"Our history is divided into two main parts. The first nine chapters carry the narrative from the coming of the railroad to New Mexico to the end of World War II-roughly from 1880 to 1945. Within that period one major emphasis rests on the political and socioeconomic life of the city. The other major subject matter is the appearance and development of the archaeological and artistic threads that slowly began to shape the town's character and offer new goals. The last four chapters deal with the half-century that has passed since World War II.
