About
Italy's call to arms in World War I extended to native sons abroad. This volume consists chiefly of letters from family members in Italy to immigrant sons, brothers, and husbands in the United States, detailing the human toll of the war at home in an effort to discourage the immigrants from returning home to serve. The correspondence was originally published in the American weekly Cronaca sovversiva, founded by Italian anarchist Luigi Galleani and aimed at the Italian immigrant working class.
