Bee-Eye

Winner of the 1989 LA Dramalogue Award for Achievement in Writing and nominated for the Bay Area Critic's Circle Awards and Cable Car Awards, this play tells the story of Edward--a famous and arrogant playwright--and his lover, William, who confronts two other couples on the single set of a shared verandah of a condo in Puerto Vallarta. While on their honeymoon, hot shot short story writer, Bee-Eye and his new wife, the neurotic psychiatric social worker, Peggy, discover they don't like one another. The studly, narcissistic director, Max, arrives to convince the self-destructive acctress, Devera, to return to LA to accept her academy award. Meanwhile, her brother, Thumper, deserts his wife and kid, and arrives on the scene in the middle of an acute identity crisis. When Thumper finds himself attracted to William, he understands why. The play finally focuses on the troubled relationship between Edward and William. Bee-Eye reveberates with the concerns and themes of Edward's own plays, and could entitled "Albee In Hell.
