About
My dissertation seeks to contribute to the development of theory on school leadership development in industrializing countries. My qualitative, exploratory study focuses on key practices that emerged during the design and implementation of a pilot school leadership initiative focused on leaders of community-based, private schools for the poor in an informal settlement in Kenya. The study also examines the participants' perspective of the training and suggestive evidence of impact after one year. By studying this design and implementation of this program, I hope to address the lack of research on school leadership development in the context of middle-income countries, specifically targeting entrepreneurial school leaders at community-based, private schools for the poor. This research will set the stage for future researchers to more deeply explore the outcomes of this intervention, as well as inform practitioners, policy makers and others interested in supporting leadership and leadership development in similar contexts.
