This book is a collection of 50 review talks given in the morning sessions of the July 1986 Santa Cruz Summer Astrophysics Workshop on Nearly Normal Galaxies. The two-week workshop presented an up-to-date, comprehensive review of galaxy formation and evolution. This topic was given greater coverage than in any previous conference on galaxies.
