Ten miracle plays

Introduces readers to medieval English drama, and in that sense can be regarded as a useful primer for newcomers to the field. It is concerned not to oversimplify, but to give an accurate impression of the wide range and the individual excellences of the plays; it views them as parts of a medieval pageant and as a lively dramatic recreation in their own right. All the main cycles are represented in a series of ten plays which have not been readily available in selections of Middle English texts.
