The book gives a comprehensive analytical treatment of MRI physics and engineering. It aims to bring the reader to a position in which he or she can cope with the problems that arise when applying MRI in new areas of medical diagnosis or when (sub)systems or sequences for new applications are designed. Special attention is paid to the treatment of the many MR scan methods and their artefacts, which are mathematically described in a uniform way. The book contains a large number of MR images of normal human anatomy, showing specific properties of the different scan methods. The scan methods discussed in theory and practice include those based on conventional sequences, such as Spin Echo and Gradient Echo, but also new methods, such as RARE, GRASE, EPI, and Spiral imaging. The book is a Textbook aimed at helping the reader to reach the level of technical understanding required for independent research or development in the field of MRI applications or system design.
