The book includes Griffith's research for George Clevenger in the British Isles before he emmigrated. From that first George Clevenger, he traces many lines of Clevengers as they migrated west. His stated purpose(s) were to preserve his data and make it readily available to others. Secondly, he hoped to eliminate duplicate searching of the same records and sources.
