L'hiver de Gunter, roman majeur du romancier paraguayen Juan Manuel Marcos, reçut le Prix du Livre de l'Année en 1987 lors de sa sortie et remporta un gros succès de librairie tant au Paraguay qu'en Amérique latine. Ce roman important de la période dite du Post-Boom latino-américain est enfin mis à la portée d'un public francophone grâce à la remarquable traduction du dramaturge et historien français Alain Saint-Saëns. Il s'agit là d'une magnifique histoire d'amour, un pamphlet virulent contre l'horreur, la brutalité et l'absurdité de toute société dictatoriale, une peinture attachante des mythes fondateurs des sociétés guaranie et guayakie.
