Amsterdamse Bos

In the spring of 1934, in a muddy polder just south of Amsterdam, work began on what would become the largest urban forest in the world. In the decades that followed, the so-called ?Boschplan? developed into a truly remarkable project. The forest?s layout and manifestation required technological expertise, while its construction during a period of economic crisis provided work for hundreds of local citizens. The Amsterdamse Bos serves a social purpose as well, in that it should provide opportunities for relaxation and the enjoyment of nature for everyone. It was the first, and largest, recreational area of its kind in the Netherlands. This book tells the fascinating history of this megaproject.
