Een tijd waarin zich een ware revolutie in de kunst en muziek voltrok. Terwijl kunstenaar Wassily Kandinsky de grondslagen bereidde voor de abstracte kunst kwam componist Arnold Schönberg met een nieuw toonsysteem in de muziek. Een concert van Schönberg in 1911 in München inspireerde Kandinsky tot de vrijwel abstracte compositie Impressie III waarvan bekend is dat hij het diezelfde avond nog schilderde. En datzelfde concert was aanleiding voor Kandinsky om Schönberg uit te nodigen om te exposeren op de eerste tentoonstelling van Der Blaue Reiter.0Bij de expositie verschijnt dit boek.
