Otomani şi turci

Civlizaţia turco-otomană s-a afirmat de-a lungul timpului ca o civilizaţie de sinteză, cu aspiraţii şidisponibilităţi multiple, care îşi aveau obârşia în varietatea etnică şi religioasă asumată de statul otoman încă din zorii apariţiei sale în Asia Mică. Această formulă, perpetuată şi, mai cu seamă, cultivată sistematic în perioada imperială, a contribuit la apariţia unui spaţiu cultural comun, care împărtăşea, dincolo de rivalităţile şi animozităţile inerente oricărei structuri supranaţionale, un set de valori specifice. Modul de viaţă otoman şi-a pus amprenta asupra limbilor vorbite cândva pe teritoriul vastului conglomerat politic patronat de turci, dar şi asupra vestimentaţiei, a gastronomiei, a arhitecturii, a mentalităţilor. Nu este de mirare, aşadar, că „temele otomane" revin periodic înactualitatea istorică şi literară, învăluite, de această dată, în aura conciliantă a timpului. Interesul faţă de ele estedeterminat nu doar de considerente ştiinţifice ori literare, ci şi de dorinţa de a pătrunde mai temeinic în tainele unui trecut din care ne-am împărtăşit cu toţii vreme de mai multe secole. It is not surprising, therefore, that "Ottoman themes" periodically return to historical and literary actuality, wrapped, this time, in the conciliatory aura of time. The interest in them is determined not only by scientific or literary considerations, but also by the desire to penetrate more thoroughly into the mysteries of a past from which we have all shared for centuries.
