The Canadian handbook and tourist’s guide

A wonderful description of Canadian lakes and river scenery and places of historical interest, published on the Eve of Confederation. The volume is illustrated with photographic prints by Montreal photographer William Notman. These photos suggest the interesting spots for hunting and fishing, a new drawing card for the Canadian tourist market. The author remarks that, "in the days of yore, the Summer tourist through the Country had no easy means of access to the quiet nooks in the Back country, that the railways have now opened up". The waterways and landscape of Lower Canada are particularly the focus of this volume. Canada is "so majestic, so wild, so captivating withal, as to vie in beauty with the most picturesque portions of the Old World".
