For centuries, newsstands and sacred images have observed us from above as we walk or speed in cars along the streets of the Eternal City. With this series of books we have the opportunity to do the exact opposite, that is, to stop and look carefully at these paintings, mosaics and sculptures which have their own artistic dignity and, sometimes, a story to tell. Considered, depending on one's personal opinion, as expressions of a secondary art, devotional and protective symbols, architectural decorations or elements of street furniture, aedicules and sacred images are nevertheless part of a historical-artistic-religious heritage that must absolutely be preserved from the oblivion and material destruction to which they are often subjected. In this perspective of re-evaluation and awareness, a meticulous research was carried out at a bibliographic level but above all through a direct reconnaissance through the streets of Rome with the intention of creating a census, or rather, a catalog updated to the third millennium after the very famous ones of 1853 by Alessandro Rufini and 1939 by Publio Parsi. A new complete census within everyone's reach, which differs from the previous ones due to the wealth of exclusive and very detailed color photographs.
