«La valle di Otro è uno dei luoghi più belli e suggestivi della Valsesia. Chiunque vi sia stato, serba il ricordo indelebile dell’ampia conca ai piedi dei monti, coi suoi villaggi dalle tipiche case in legno e pietra. Non esiste forse libro sui Walser che non contenga almeno una fotografia degli splendidi loggiati delle sue abitazioni tradizionali. Mancava, invece, una monografia interamente dedicata a questo luogo del cuore, in cui una comunità di “tedeschi” ha vissuto per secoli sospesa, come la valle stessa, tra terra e cielo. Il presente volume, frutto di un lungo lavoro di ricerca, si rivela oltremodo prezioso perché, oltre a donarci delle splendide immagini del territorio, ce ne narra la storia, introducendoci letteralmente delle case degli ultimi testimoni, ben lieti di rivivere e raccontare aneddoti sulla loro infanzia trascorsa lassù. Leggendolo ci sembra quasi di ascoltare dalla loro viva voce le avventure vissute in prima persona o tramandate dagli anziani durante le lunghe veglie serali nel tepore della stalla, in cui realtà e fantasia si fondono, e l’elemento magico si insinua, tra le piòve dei tetti, nel buio delle mangiatoie, nei grandi occhi scuri degli animali».
