From the abstract: “My thesis is based on a catalogue and chronological discussion of the electrum, silver and bronze coinage of the island of Chios from 550 to 300 B.C. For the early period down to the end of the Ionian revolt in 494 B.C., I have produced a detailed numismatic catalogue and chronological plates, a photographic analysis, and survey of literary and archaeological evidence to place the coinage in its historical context. For the remainder of the period from 493 to 300 B.C, I have collected most known examples of the coinage, grouped and dated them, illustrated the main examples and done limited work on the historical background of the coinage. Several major chronological changes have now been made by my study...” The original photographic plates are of real value.
