You Can't Give it Away, Tax Aspects of Ecologically Sensitive Lands

This paper focuses on the Income Tax Act, on the property tax systems that are in place in each province and territory, and how these tax systems affect the setting aside of ecologically significant lands for conservation purposes through gifts of real estate and conservation covenants and easements. Other federal and provincial taxes affecting wetlands are described, including the Goods and Services Tax. A detailed discussion of property tax treatment includes assessments, specific favourable measures, provincial and territorial profiles, and new measures under consideration.
