More than 1300 type specimens are preserved at the herbarium of the Institute. Each was photographed and reviewed. Some were collected by Japanese taxonomists, such as B. Hayata, T. Ito, T. Kawakami, S. Sasaki, and U. Mori in the early period of this century.
