About
A detached house in a green subdivision remains by far the most popular living dream of the Fleming. Yet there is considerable criticism of the allotment: the density of housing is too low, the energy consumption too high, the car dependency too great. The 'Subdivision Stories' attempt to initiate change and, together with residents, policy makers and designers, look for new visions of the future for Flemish allotment. In itself, these visions of the future are not spectacular. What is special is that these initiatives have been developed and supported by residents who until then only worried about the maintenance of their own garden --translated note, page 4 of cover.
