Global Cooperation in a Fragmented International Order

The contemporary international system is facing profound fragmentation due to the interplay of geopolitical rivalries, economic uncertainties, climate crises, and the weakening of traditional multilateral institutions. State-centric diplomacy alone is often insufficient to address these multidimensional challenges. In this context, civil society organisations, knowledge-based institutions, and non-state actors have emerged as crucial players in fostering dialogue, promoting cooperation, and shaping global policies. This article examines the strategic role of global affairs leadership within civil society institutions, highlighting the operational and conceptual contributions of the Dr. M.A. Wazed Mia Memorial Foundation (DMWF). Drawing on examples from the foundation’s programs and international engagement, this analysis demonstrates how global affairs advisers bridge divides, cultivate leadership networks, and ensure sustainable institutional impact.
