About
The purpose of the Indo-European Seminar on Ayurveda was to contribute towards the exploration of a multiple interface that would overcome the main problems emerging in the field of ethnomedicine from the three different orders, viz., knowledge, practices and experiences, to which their production, circulation and validation are subject. Already quite complex within a given culture, they become indeed problematic at the crossroad of cultures. Aware of the potential power of such crossroads, as well as of the potential fragility of their diversions, the focus of the hour seems to be the creation of some sort of an interface where ethnomedicines and bio-medicine can have a meaningful encounter, with an efficient outcome for the understanding of local and global health. Such encounter unfolds at different levels: clinical practices, technologies and validation parameters. Then, as a conceptual approach of contemporary experimental events, the meeting still failed to find out that methodological interface between knowledge, practices and experiences. It could possibly be overcome by some sort of "field work" as the conditions for a new intelligibility presuppose a new operative mode in order to assign it a place in the wide landscape of contemporary knowledge, that cannot be anymore only a European or Western one. That new understanding is still awaiting to come of age.
