Bridging Discourses in the Esl Classroom

This book is centrally concerned with the nature of talk in multilingual classrooms where students are learning in and through English as a second language, and on the ways in which such talk can support both the curriculum learning and language development of students. Within this broad context, the title of the book reflects three perspectives which relate to the topic, the research process and the purposes of the research. First, 'bridging discourses' refers to the process of teacher-student interaction and thus to the most critical means by which teaching and learning occurs (or perhaps fails to occur).
