About
"Lived between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, Alessi was one of the most representative and prolific authors of the so-called Attic comedy 'in the middle'. In the Introduction to this volume the aspects of general character concerning the life and the dramaturgical activity of the playwright are discussed; follow analysis, commentary and translation of his surviving theatrical production (including 138 titles, 339 fragments of sure attribution and 2 fragments of dubious authenticity), which, on the one hand, recalls the poetics of Aristophanes, at the other he preaches the bourgeois comedy of Menander. An appendix on the history (from its foundation until the IV century a.C.) of the magnogreca town of Thurii, according to some ancient sources of Alessi's homeland, has been edited by Leonardo Di Vasto."--Translated from back cover
