About
Le narrateur, Michel Kizito, a quitté Samba - une ville de l'est du Congo-Kinshasa - à l'âge de huit ans, à la suite d'une guerre qui emporta sa famille, à l'exception de son père. Celui-ci disparut, enlevé par des hommes en uniforme militaire. Vingt-deux ans plus tard, l'annonce de la mort, dans un journal de Samba, d'un mendiant portant le nom de Kizito décide Michel à retourner dans sa ville natale. Il entreprend d'y enquêter sur le passé du mort, convaincu que ce dernier pourrait être son père. Le voilà dans les rues de sable de l'étrange ville de Samba dans l'espoir de reconstituer son propre passé.
