About
The O le Taiala Samoan Bilingual Unit is a programme of Finlayson Park School in Manurewa, South Auckland, started in 1996 to cater for its growing roll of Samoan students. The study sought to find out from a sample of fourty participants whether the programme showed any measure of effectiveness for the teaching and learning of the 124 students involved in the programme. A comparative approach was taken for the purpose of finding out how the Samoan bilingual students performed relative to their Samoan mainstream counterparts. The testing was focused on reading proficiency. The results were analysed in the light of international research evidence.
