About
Provides historical information on log harvest; employment in the forest industries; international trade in logs, lumber, and chips; and volume and average prices of sawtimber stumpage sold by national forests. "The following tables have been compiled from historical publications of "Production, Prices, Employment, and Trade in Northwest Forest Industries" (1968-2010). This report presents data from 1965 through 2010 for the Pacific Northwest forest industries. In most industries, dramatic changes are shown through the years. In the Oregon and Washington harvest statistics, high peaks occurred in 1968 and 1973, and the lowest harvests were in 2009 for both Oregon and Washington. Employment in the forest industries has continued to decline steadily. Enormous changes are shown in log exports from the Pacific Northwest: highest volumes were in 1988 and 1989, and now the volumes are back to the 1960s level. The chip market remained fairly steady in volume, with prices hitting their peaks in 1995. The lumber exports (like the logs) peaked in 1988 and 1989, but the total average prices were highest in 2006. The national forest sawtimber volume was highest in 1970 and dropped off to the lowest in 2000 with only 155 million board feet."--Summary.
