About
The book describes the conditions in Bangla Desh as seen by the journalist author during his visit in December 1974 -January 1975. The visit was inspired by a dream that the author had in 1968 in New Delhi in which there was mention of breaking Pakistan – a few years before there was any indication of such a drastic event (Bangla Desh broke free from Pakistan only in 1971). The visit took place at a crucial juncture in the history of Bangla Desh when events were unfolding rapidly. On 29th December 1974, Sheikh Mujib, the democratically elected president of Bangla Desh, had declared an emergency since the country was in a chaos. Just a few months later, on 15th August 1975, Sheikh Mujib and his family were gunned down in a bloody military coup, and for years to come, the country was thrown in the grip of a military dictatorship. During such a turbulent time, the author braved many risks, travelled around, and spoke to many important personalities. Some of the firsthand information so gathered had an uncanny resemblance to the years-old dream of the author! Soon after the visit, the author penned this book, producing a riveting account of the situation in Bangla Desh.
