Describes the structure of Nazi health services between 1933-45. Among 70,000 German physicians working during the Second World War there were 400 who became murderers. Criminal activities were conducted by physicians who belonged to the Nazi Party and were educated in the SS Medical Academies. Discusses the activities of 52 of the physicians-murderers, among them Josef Mengele, Karl Brandt, Kurt Blome, Enno Lolling, Gerhard Rose, Adolf Pokorny, Ernst Gravitz, Carl Clauberg, Eduard Wirths, Horst Fischer. States that the Nazi medical experiments and murders did not provoke protests among the majority of German physicians. Concludes that, after the war, German society was very indulgent toward the Nazi physicians and only a very small number of them were brought to trial. Some of them committed suicide. Reflects on the phenomenon of the transformation of physicians who had sworn not to harm people into cruel murderers.
