Enkooadabaoo was the name Big Bear, Chief of the Cree had given to him after his parents were murdered by the Blackfoot. His friend John Norquay called him Kitche which meant brave. Louis Riel gave him the European name Marcel Kitch. But all of these great men knew him as an honorable man who helped them as they struggled against the British and the powerful Hudson Bay Company. It was in the early 1800s that the Indigenous people rose up against their oppressors to fight for their rights and their freedom. The First Nation is a story of friendship and war. Love and hate.
