The face of the Arctic

Richard Harrington was a Canadian photographer. He is best known for his photographs taken in the Canadian Arctic. In 1947, Harrington made a trip to Inukjuak in the eastern Arctic, and this stirred his desire to see more of the far north. Over the next decade, he made five additional trips to the north. Harrington’s Arctic photographs now form an historical record of a vanishing way of life, as the Inuit people were soon to abandon their nomadic lifestyle to settle permanently into various camps. This book covers four of his trips between 1949 and 1951.
