About
Two identitary projects are central to this dissertation: first, all the protagonists must navigate the myths concerning the Other before (re)discovering the truths about the Self in a journey that juxtaposes physical movements with internal evolutions. Moreover, as a whole, these authors as well as their texts constitute a counterpoint to reveal the limits of a widely adopted literary categorization system grounded on the division between French and Francophone literatures, which plays a major role in privileging certain works while marginalizing others. Situated in the intersection of these two major quests for identity, my study questions the aforementioned binary by demonstrating how these exotes’ representative works expand the ways in which we conceive boundaries of literatures in French.
