The Chocolate Touch - Literature Kit Gr. 3-4

In this State Standards-aligned Literature Kit™, we divide the novel by chapters or sections and feature reading comprehension and vocabulary questions. In every chapter, we include Before You Read and After You Read questions. The Before You Read activities prepare students for reading by setting a purpose for reading. They stimulate background knowledge and experience, and guide students to make connections between what they know and what they will learn. The After You Read activities check students' comprehension and extend their learning. Students are asked to give thoughtful consideration of the text through creative and evaluative short-answer questions and journal prompts. Also included are writing tasks, graphic organizers, comprehension quiz, test prep, word search, and crossword to further develop students' critical thinking and writing skills, and analysis of the text. About the Novel: The Chocolate Touch is a re-imagined story of a young boy who turns everything he eats into chocolate. John Midas loves candy, especially chocolate. He loves it so much, that he refuses to eat anything else. His parents try to get him to eat more healthy food, but to no avail. One day, John finds a mysterious coin on his way to a friend's house. He decides to spend this coin on a box of chocolate from a store he's never seen before. To his disappointment, the box contains a single ball of chocolate. He eats it anyway, enjoying every last piece. The next day, John wakes to discover that everything he eats turns to chocolate. John is the happiest he could ever be, but soon discovers the downfalls of a chocolate diet. The Chocolate Touch is a twist on the classic legend of King Midas, but teaches the importance of a healthy diet.
