(B) RESERVATION SYSTEM AIRLINE RESERVATION Airline reservation covers the area of providing seat, space, special request, services or other accommodations to the passengers. There are three basic elements involved in the application of airline reservations: a. Appointment (between passenger and airline). b. Requirement needed by passenger and airline. c. Seat availability provided by airline. Airlines reservations is distinguished from other reservations transactions because of some facilities it has, such as: 1. Wheel chair. 2. Stretcher. 3. Unaccompanied Minor handling. 4. Excess baggage. 5. Special Meal (like HNML-Hindus meal , MOML-Moslem meal, KSML-Koshour meal Yahudi, NSML, etc).: 6. Auxiliaries (like TUR, HTL, ATX, CAR and SUR). RESERVATION SYSTEM Basically there are two types of reservation system: 1) Manual Reservations All transactions are carried out manually. This system is usually applied by relatively small airlines. 2) Computerized Reservations Transactions are processed by computers. However, in some cases manual system is still needed in fully mechanized reservations, e.g. in handling group booking or incapacitated passengers. (C) ORGANIZATION OF AIRLINE RESERVATION LOCAL RESERVATION (sine code: RR) In every establishment of any airline at town office there is a reservation unit called Local Reservation. Two office function designator letters (RR) represents this reservation unit. Examples of Local Reservations: SUBRRGA SYDRRQF AMSRRKL SINRRSQ KULRRMH LONRRBA The tasks of these reservations units are: 1. Handling the local passengers`reservations and sending sold message(s) to the control point of the flight concerned. 2. Carrying out interline reservations (other airlines flights) based on the interline agreement and procedures. 3. Handling requests concerning ground arrangements/auxiliaries, such as: HTL, TUR, ATX, CAR, and SUR 4. Forwarding special request to participating carriers, either host airlines or other airlines according to the procedures. Those special requests are: STCR, BSCT, XBAG, WCHR, SPML, etc. INVENTORY HOLDER (sine code: RM) Inventory holder of booking storage is mostly stored in airlines reservation system (processed by IBM computer for example). Inventory holder having functions: 1. To create and store the record of all transactions (sold and request) of all host airlines local reservation and other airlines selling offices. 2. To reply all requests from the reservations selling offices and when needed it will forward sales or reqeusts either to host airline control point or other airline control point. 3. Automatically arranging space or seat sales of a flight under its control. The control city/point of an airline is called predesignated point. Examples of Inventory Holder: JKTRMGA SYDRMQF AMSRMKL SINRMSQ KULRMMH LONRMBA CENTRAL RESERVATIONS CONTROL (sine code: RC) Although there has been a Local Reservations (RR) or other selling office as the the first party and Inventory Holder (RM) as the second party, another party is still needed to control, to coordinate or to change reservations transaction procedures between RR and RM (as the first and the second party). This third party is called Central Reservation Control (CRC), having the cable address JKTRCGA, AMSRCKL and so on. Besides controlling all of the reservations transactions CRC also functions as: 1. Airline representatives in making interline agreement. 2. The holder of reservation policy in accordance with company`s basic policy. 3.
