Young Greek Kassandra meets Christian Braun, a student, on Mykonos, Greece. The two fall in love and marry. She leaves her beloved home country to live with him in Munich, Germany. The marriage is a happy one. Kassandra's in-laws cherish her and help in every possible way so their daughter-in-law makes the transition to Germany without difficulty. Kassandra assimilates quickly and gives birth to two children. Kassandra's ordeal begins when Christian, now a committed politician, relocates his family to Augsburg. Christian pursues his political career and neglects his wife. Kassandra feels abandoned. When the children also leave the nest, she feels utterly useless and becomes depressed. Nevertheless, she moves with Christian to Bonn. Christian promises he will have more time for her once there. Unfortunately, he doesn't adhere to his promise since he's an ambitious man whose only interest is to advance his career. With every passing day, the couple grows further and further apart. Kassandra meets Dr. Dominik Bastian, a prominent lawyer living next door, and his wife Evelyn. Dr. Bastian and Kassandra fall in love at first sight. Fate brings them together and plays a cruel game.
