Unrecorded printing depicting Ippolito and Lionora, two Florentine teenage lovers from bitterly feuding families who find themselves in mortal jeopardy, with Ippolito unjustly condemned to death. Lionora courageously secures his freedom at the last minute, and they live happily ever after. Long, and falsely, attributed to Leone Battista Alberti, this story first appeared in print in prose in 1471. The blind poet Simone Martinelli took credit for this verse retelling, one of several popular chapbook romances he successfully tweaked. See M.
