About
Jesuit and painter Santiago Páramo (b. Bogotá 1841-1915) was the author of the extraordinary decoration of the St Joseph's Chapel the Church of San Ignacio in Bogotá, known as "the Colombia Sistine Chapel". This work, executed between 1896 and 1898, has three large murals that stand out in the Chapel, two of them painted on the sidewalls that delimit the altar, on which there is oil by Oreste Monacelli illustrating the episode of the death of San Joseph. The mural on the South side is titled "Doomsday", and in the North, "The end of the world". The third mural is located on the wall of the main access door located on the side opposite to the altar; dedicated to the "Saints and blessed of the Society of Jesus". The dome and the four pendentives completes the work of father Páramo with the mural "Glorification of the Holy Family". Three large canvases, several stained glass windows, an original organ and a beautiful set of German tiles complement the work. Fully illustrated, this is "the fifth book in the series that since 2009, the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Villegas Editoress have published of the Jesuit artistic and cultural heritage in Colombia"--(Our translation)--Front Flap.
