Le premier volume des Leçons de Philosophie (1815) porte sur les facultés de l'âme considérées dans leur nature. Pierre Laromiguière (1756-1837) y présente son système en le comparant à celui de Condillac pour en montrer la supériorité. C'est sur la question de la genèse des facultés qu'il va faire à la philosophie de Condillac une très profonde modification ; il prend en effet pour point de départ, outre la sensation, faculté passive, l'attention, faculté active. Le titre de Laromiguière en philosophie est d'avoir restitué à l'activité son véritable rôle dans l'âme humaine.
