Station Deventer

This book deals with more than 150 years of Deventer railway history and in particular the station building. The building will be 100 years old in 2020. The book contains beautiful historical photos, track plans, design drawings and collages of, among other things, station buildings, viaducts, platforms, waiting rooms and specific details. In 1865 the first steam train entered Deventer. The former Staatsspoor station was located just outside the ramparts on the same spot as the current station. In 1888 another station was added, but this time of the competing Hollandse Spoorweg Maatschappij. Deventer became an important railway junction with intersecting railway lines from all four directions. The increase in rail traffic soon led to the desire for one large joint station. The decision-making process was very laborious and construction finally started in 1914. The work was delayed due to the difficult conditions during the mobilization period in the First World War. The architect designed a station building that fitted well with the park-like environment. In 1920 the station was opened and grew into one of the most famous buildings in the city. It is striking that the station has been so well preserved and kept its function. The building has been a national monument since 1999 and restorations are regularly carried out to restore and strengthen the monumental allure of the past. Het boek bevat prachtige historische foto's, sporenplannen, ontwerptekeningen en collages van onder andere stationsgebouwen, viaducten, perrons, wachtkamers en specifieke details.0In 1865 reed de eerste stoomtrein Deventer binnen. Het toenmalige station Staatsspoor lag net buiten de vestingwalen op dezelfde plek als het huidige station. In 1888 kwam er nog een station bij, maar dan van de concurrerende Hollandse Spoorweg Maatschappij. Deventer werd een belangrijk spoorwegknooppunt met kruisende spoorlijnen vanuit alle vier de windrichtingen.0De toename van het spoorverkeer leidde al snel tot de wens voor één groot gezamenlijk station. Het besluitvormingsproces was zeer moeizaam en uiteindelijk startte in 1914 de aanleg. De werkzaamheden ondervonden vertraging vanwege de moeilijke omstandigheden tijdens de mobilisatieperiode in de Eerste Wereldoorlog. De architect ontwierp een stationsgebouw dat goed paste bij de parkachtige omgeving. In 1920 werd het station in gebruik genomen en groeide uit tot één van de bekendste gebouwen van de stad. Opvallend is dat het station zo goed bewaard is gebleven en zijn functie heeft gehouden. Sinds 1999 is het gebouw een rijksmonument en vinden er regelmatig restauraties plaats om de monumentale allure van vroeger te herstellen en te versterken.
