The author Wladyslaw (Walter) Marynowicz (1920-1977) was senior lecturer at Ealing School of Photography, and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. The book contains 120 of the author's prize winning photographs each one with a description of the author's aims and the technique used. It also contains chapters on darkroom techniques such as posterisation and solarization, which the author did much to develop and perfect.
